The Vietnam Higher Education Development Project is provided with a credit package of USD 295 million, which will contribute to the improvement of teaching and research capacity at VNU, VNU-HCMC and Da Nang University. Through investments in modern facilities, advanced equipment and knowledge transfer, the project will accelerate the process of transforming these three universities into competitive educational institutions of advanced teaching and research capacity at regional level.

This credit package is provided by the International Development Association (IDA).

The VNU sub-project has a total budget of USD 125.18 million. The funding from the World Bank is USD 100.87 million and the balanced fund of the Vietnamese Government is USD 24.31 million. VNU will invest this funding in constructing three areas covering 37.5 hectares out of the 1,000 hectares of the campus, including the constructing of 18 one to eight-floor buildings for classrooms, offices, libraries, laboratories, a sports centre, and an experiment centre for teaching, learning and research; two wastewater treatment stations, internal yards and roads, and drainage systems.

According to experts, when the project is put into operation, it will bring about such positive impacts on the local environment and society as forming a university city with green space and creative areas; creating a positive academic environment for students and lecturers of VNU; increasing the coverage of greenery on the university campus with environmentally friendly structures using green energy and saving energy.

VNU has placed an order for designing the VNU sub-project based on a green, clean, smart and climate change-responsive orientation.
