DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER VU DUC DAM ANNOUNCES THE PM’S DECISION ON APPOINTING PROF. DR. LE QUAN AS VNU’S NEW PRESIDENT

On June 28, 2021, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and his delegation visited VNU and announced the PM’s Decision on appointing Prof. Dr. Le Quan as VNU’s new president.
 

Due to the complication of the COVID-19 epidemic, the ceremony of announcing and handing over the Decision on the appointment of VNU’s new president was held online at VNU and the webcast bridges including Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee and VNU’s functional departments and members.

Previously, on June 24, 2021, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Decision No. 998/QD-TTg on the appointment of Mr. Le Quan, Deputy Secretary of Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, as VNU President.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam highly appreciated VNU’s role and important contributions in the national education and training as well as in the development of the country’s high-quality human resources.

On the path of growth and development, VNU has affirmed its leading position in Vietnam’s higher education system. Notably, VNU features in Group 801-1,000 best universities globally for the fourth consecutive time and is listed in Group 251-300 best Asian universities by the THE Asia University Rankings 2021 in early June.

“This is a great step forward, the great efforts of VNU’s leaders, lecturers, scientists, employees and students despite the limitation in investment for education and training as well as bad impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020," said Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

The Deputy Prime Minister congratulated Mr. Nguyen Kim Son, VNU President’s predecessor, who was recently assigned by the Party and State to be the Minister of Education and Training as well as congratulated and officially assigned the new task to VNU’s new President Le Quan.

The Deputy Prime Minister believed that, with the experience gained from many important leadership positions, the newly appointed VNU President would continue to inherit and promote the achievements of VNU's leaders, staff, lecturers and scientists to further develop VNU in the coming times.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son congratulated and hoped that the new VNU President would continue to persevere and consistently achieve the goals of the 6th Congress of VNU Party Committee, namely: building an exemplary, healthy and strong Party Committee with high vigor, avant-gardism and leadership capacity; striving to feature in Asia’s Top 100 universities and in the world’s Top 500 universities by 2025.

In his inauguration speech, VNU's new President Le Quan expressed his determination and efforts to join hands with VNU’s officials, lecturers, scientists, and students to build VNU into a truly great university, pioneering in reforming Vietnam's higher education, affirming its high position nationally and internationally.
